Okay, so here I go!

Last Sunday afternoon, my 13-year-old and I ended up on the living room floor with a tangle of yarn and two crochet hooks, making a mess and giggling at my very wonky first row in the hearts we were making for a keychain.

I am not good at it (yet) and she’s so much more better than me! But somewhere between dropped stitches, i started thinking you know that crocheting is creativity too! isnt it?

We tend to think “being creative” means the writing, the post, the perfectly-worded note. But it’s also the crochet, the doodle, the dinner you improvised, the shelf you rearranged for no reason.

Creativity isn’t one lane. It’s a way of moving through your days. And keeping it alive in small, hobby-sized ways is honestly what keeps the writing alive too.

Which, funnily enough, is exactly why I made a big change this week. 👇

Quiet Happy is now Quiet Creator

Here’s the honest why.

I started out writing under “Quiet Happy,” all about happiness.

But the longer I wrote, the more I felt this quiet pressure to be happy. All the time. And that’s just not how it works, is it?

Happiness comes and goes in waves. some days it’s here, some days it isn’t. and pretending otherwise started to feel a little false.

“Quiet Creator” feels truer to me.

It’s about building a quiet, creative life and business as an introvert, without the hustle. Happiness is welcome whenever it visits, but it’s not the job anymore. Creating is.

If you’ve ever gone to switch on paid subscriptions and frozen because you had no idea what to actually put behind the paywall, this one’s for you. Olivia calls it the “blank-paywall problem,” and makes the case that “more posts” is the weakest reason to ask anyone for money.

Instead she gives 40+ upgrade ideas sorted from lowest to highest effort: a members’ directory, a curated opportunity feed, 15-minute office-hours mini-consults, a small evergreen mini-course, and more.

my take: gorgeous list, but please don’t read it as a to-do list. pick the one or two ideas that genuinely fit your personality and your situation, and be honest about which shiny ones would quietly drain you or eat into your hours and your life long-term. skip those, even if they look impressive. a paid tier should slot into the life you actually want, not become a second job you never asked for. (her own best line agrees: the strongest tiers run on just three or four things, not forty.)

my take: if you’ve been quietly fantasising about doing this full-time one day, read it as inspo, not pressure. it’s proof it’s possible for a real person who started exactly where you are.

and can I just say, I love how warm, comforting and encouraging every one of Olivia’s posts feels. you leave them believing you can, not panicking that you’re behind. that tone is a whole lesson on its own. 🩷

About Substack: What you need to know

Two genuinely useful Substack updates dropped, and both matter even if you’re brand new here.

Country leaderboards.

Substack rolled out country-specific leaderboards, starting with the UK, France, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain.

If you’re based in one of those, you can now appear on your country’s Top and Rising lists, and readers there can discover you. They’ve said more countries are coming.

my take: if you’re in one of those five, the Rising list is the one to care about, not Top. you don’t need to be big to land there. you need to be growing and consistent. and if your country isn’t on the list yet, just keep writing and chill. don’t let it nag at you. leaderboards are a nice-to-have, not the game. the daily note still does the heavy lifting.

One-click post translations.

Every post you publish can now be translated with a single click.

So, if you write in English, readers can read you in ~15 languages. Or write in your own language and have it land in English. Short notes got this first; now it’s full posts too.

my take: this quietly made your tiny newsletter global overnight, and nobody’s saying it loudly enough for beginners. your honest little post can now be read by someone in Istanbul or São Paulo who’d never have found you before. you don’t have to do anything clever. just know your words travel further than they used to now. 🌍
